SiciliAmbiente is an international film Festival featuring documentaries, shorts and animation linked to topics concerning the environment, sustainability and human rights, as well as “special” section will on the topic of bicycles and sustainable mobility sponsored by FIAB (National Bicycle Federation).
SiciliAmbiente is supported by the Comune di San Vito Lo Capo, and organized by Demetra Produzioni and the cultural association Cantiere 7.
One fundamental thing we always ask of our partners is that they liberate themselves from the classic idea of sponsorships in order to leave space for the creation of shared activities that will experientially engage the citizens and tourists of San Vito lo Capo during the Festival. Thanks to our partners, every afternoon we host a book presentation and offer refreshments (producers of Km-0 and organic foods), we offer a wide variety of excursions, workshops for children and teens, as well as photography exhibitions.
It is also thanks to all of our partners that we have been able to receive recognition by the Sicily Film Commission. We have received great feedback since the first editions of the Festival, and it continues to grow, featuring new sections in the film contest, more events and activities, and the increasing participation of guests and the public. The picturesque location at San Vito lo Capo, with its seascape and marvelous sunsets, has helped visually frame the event. In 2017 the Festival once again won the Culture in Green Award from the BuyGreen Forum, for the best “green” cultural event in Italy .
Despite constant recognition and hard work by the entire staff to create a festival rich in cultural activities, in the last two years we have lost support of the Ministry of Cultural and Heritage Activities. Despite our requests, the motivations behind this decision remain unknown.
We want our Festival to contribute to the diffusion of a “culture of sustainability”, based on a perspective for lasting development from which all of our planet’s peoples, present and future, may benefit; in which social safeguards such as the fight against poverty, for human rights and health, are integrated with the need to conserve our natural resources and ecosystems by finding reciprocal support.
Again this year, numerous associations operating in the fields of environmental topics, sustainability and human rights have confirmed their presence at and support of the Festival, and they will organize a series of theme-based educational initiatives throughout the Festival at San Vito lo Capo.
Now, the only thing left to do is to invite you all to plan your holidays in Sicily, so you can come visit us in San Vito lo Capo for the SICILIAMBIENTE DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL!
