The Third SiciliAmbiente – Documentary Film Festival San Vito Lo Capo will take place from the 19th to the 24th of July 2011.
The aim of the Festival SiciliAmbiente is to promote the auteur documentary cinema related to environmental issues, and to encourage contacts and exchanges of views and ideas between the directors.
This Festival is organized and sponsored by Demetra Produzioni SAS and the cultural association CANTIERE 7, with the support of the City of San Vito Lo Capo and several sponsors who share the same principles characterizing the Festival.
The Film Exhibition is articulated in different sections: the international film contest for documentaries on environmental subjects, an international review of cartoons selected by the CinemAmbiente Festival of Turin, and several tributes/retrospectives, seminars, panel discussions.
The Selection Committee will base its choices on the quality of texts and images and, more generally, on the use of a creative language indentifying an auteur documentary film.
INTERNATIONAL CONTEST
Documentaries of any nationality and length are admitted to take part to the selection, provided that they were completed after the 1st of January 2009. In case of selection, the format for the projection of the film may be: Betacam SP PAL, HDV, DVCAM, miniDV. Other formats must be approved by the Secretariat of the Festival. No rental fees will be paid for the contest section of the Festival.
The works in languages other than Italian must be subtitled in Italian.
An international jury, composed by influent figures in Cinema and Culture will assign the following prizes:
The amounts of the awards in money will be paid within 6 months from the date of the assignment.
The filmmakers and/or the producers of the films selected will be notified by the 10th of June 2011. No notification will be provided for the excluded films. The selection, the programme and the projections schedule are at the sole discretion of the Direction.
HOW TO APPLY
Submission of documentaries for pre-selections is free. The application form, completely filled in and signed, must be sent with the required documentation by the 30th of April 2011 (the postmark date will be taken in account as a proof). Postal expenses for the required documentation are at the participant’s expense. If you are sending a work from abroad, remember to write on the parcel, for customs purposes, the following note: “Senza valore commerciale, per soli scopi culturali”/ “Without commercial value, for cultural purposes only”. The Festival will not cover the postage charges for the return of DVDs and VHS.

Authors and/or Producers are responsible for the content of their films, and upon registration to the Festival, they must declare that all the obligations towards third parts deriving from copyright laws and related to the use of copyright material have been fulfilled.
Registration is subjected to the acceptance of the condition that all received materials are kept deposited in the SiciliAmbiente Archive and that authorization is granted to use them for cultural and educational purposes, for research and promotion, also in places and contexts other than this Festival, excluding any commercial use in order to safeguard filmmakers’ and producers’ interests. The Festival will act as intermediary between the holder of the rights and distributors.

Postal expenses and custom clearance will be covered by the sender. SiciliAmbiente will cover postal expenses and custom clearance for the return. If, after the screening at this Festival, a copy is requested for another festival, postage and custom clearance will be at the expense of the party making the request. In any case, SiciliAmbiente will cover the charges relative to no more than one shipment of the copy.
DONATION FOR THE ARCHIVE
The donation of one copy of the film – in Betacam SP, HDV, DVCAM or mini DV format – for the archive would be highly appreciated. The copy will be used for research purposes, for preservation itself, and for promotion of the documentary cinema, being excluded any commercial use.
If an Author or Producer decides to withdraw from the Festival a film which has already been included in the programme after the selection, a compensation sum of € 1.000,00 will be demanded for damages.
The Festival provides a “nail to nail” insurance coverage for copies of the films included in programme. In case of loss or damage of a copy, SiciliAmbiente’s responsibility will be limited to the reprinting costs of the copy, on the basis of the corresponding Italian prices.
Participation in the selection implies the acceptance of the above Regulations, available also in the Italian version. In case of issues in the interpretation of these rules, the Italian version of the Regulations only is considered valid.

La III edizione del SicilAmbiente – Documentary Film festival San Vito Lo Capo – si svolgerà dal 19 al 24 Luglio 2011.
Lo scopo del Festival SICILIAMBIENTE è di promuovere e diffondere il cinema documentario d’autore a tema ambientale e favorire il confronto tra i registi.
Il Festival è organizzato e promosso dalla Demetra produzioni sas e dall’associazione culturale CANTIERE 7– con il contributo del Comune di San Vito Lo Capo e di numerosi sponsor rigorosamente in linea con i principi del festival.
La Rassegna si articola in più sezioni: concorso internazionale di documentari a tema ambientale, una panoramica internazionale di cartoni animati selezionata dal festival CinemAmbiente di Torino, e numerosi omaggi/retrospettive, seminari, tavole rotonde.
Il Comitato di Selezione opera le sue scelte in base alla qualità della scrittura e delle immagini e, più in generale, in base all’identificazione di un cinema documentario d’autore.
CONCORSO INTERNAZIONALE
Possono partecipare alla selezione film di qualsiasi nazionalità e durata, completati dopo il 1 gennaio 2009. In caso di selezione del film, il formato per la proiezione può essere: Betacam SP PAL, HDV, DVCAM, miniDV. Eventuali altri formati dovranno essere concordati con la Segreteria del Festival. Per la sezione competitiva non possono essere richieste spese di noleggio.
I lavori in lingua straniera devono essere sottotitolati in lingua italiana.
Una Giuria internazionale, formata da personalità del cinema e della cultura, attribuirà i seguenti premi:
I premi in denaro verranno corrisposti non più tardi di 6 mesi dalla loro attribuzione.
Gli Autori e/o i Produttori dei film selezionati saranno informati entro il 10 giugno 2011. Non è prevista alcuna comunicazione per i film non selezionati. La selezione, la programmazione generale e il calendario delle proiezioni sono di competenza esclusiva della Direzione.
MODALITA’ DI ISCRIZIONE
L’iscrizione del film alla pre-selezione è gratuita. La scheda d’iscrizione, compilata in tutte le sue parti e firmata, dovrà essere inviata insieme al resto della documentazione richiesta entro e non oltre il 30 aprile 2011 (fa fede il timbro postale).
La spedizione della documentazione inviata per l’iscrizione è a carico del partecipante. Per le opere provenienti dall’estero, ai fini doganali, si prega di riportare sul collo l’indicazione: “Senza valore commerciale, per soli scopi culturali”. Il Festival non coprirà le spese di spedizione relative alla restituzione delle VHS o dei DVD.

Autori e/o Produttori rispondono del contenuto delle proprie opere e dichiarano, con l’iscrizione al Festival, di avere adempiuto ogni obbligazione nei confronti di terzi derivante da diritti d’autore.
L’iscrizione comporta inderogabilmente il deposito di ogni materiale inviato presso l’Archivio del SiciliAmbiente con la possibilità di utilizzarlo a fini didattici, di ricerca e di promozione, anche in sedi e contesti diversi da quello del Festival, ad esclusione di ogni utilizzo commerciale a tutela degli interessi degli Autori e dei Produttori. Il Festival si propone inoltre come intermediario tra il proprietario dei diritti e la distribuzione.
FILM INVITATI E TRASPORTO DELLE COPIE
Tutte le opere ammesse in concorso o comunque invitate al Festival devono essere corredate da:

Le spese di spedizione e sdoganamento della copia di proiezione dei film selezionati sono a carico del mittente. Per il ritorno, il SiciliAmbiente si farà carico dei costi di trasporto e sdoganamento al luogo di destinazione. Qualora dopo la proiezione all’interno della rassegna venga richiesto l’invio della copia del film ad un altro festival, le spese di spedizione e sdoganamento saranno a carico del richiedente. In ogni caso, il SiciliAmbiente coprirà le spese di un solo viaggio di trasporto della copia di proiezione.
DONAZIONE ALL’ARCHIVIO
Sarà gradita la donazione di una copia in formato Betacam SP, HDV, DVCAM o miniDV da depositare presso l’Archivio. La copia donata sarà utilizzata a fini di studio, di conservazione e di diffusione della conoscenza del cinema documentario, ad esclusione di ogni utilizzo commerciale.
Nel caso in cui l’Autore o la Produzione decidano di ritirare la partecipazione di un film già incluso in programma, verrà richiesto il pagamento della somma di € 1.000,00 a titolo di risarcimento danni.
Il Festival provvede alla copertura assicurativa delle copie dei film inclusi in rassegna con formula “da chiodo a chiodo”. In caso di smarrimento o di danneggiamento della copia, la responsabilità del SiciliAmbiente sarà comunque limitata al costo per la ristampa della copia, secondo le tariffe in vigore in Italia.
La partecipazione alla selezione implica l’accettazione del presente Regolamento, disponibile anche in versione inglese. In caso di problemi di interpretazione, il solo Regolamento in lingua italiana è da considerarsi valido a tutti gli effetti.
